Why I Am Qualified To Teach You

I often say I learned everything I need to know about teaching in my first year. I taught 7th grade in the South Bronx. One day a young man, aged 15 but in 7th grade, said to me “you don’t have to worry about me so much, miss. I’m just going to end up in prison like my dad, anyway.” In that moment, I become obsessed with understanding how to help people overcome any limitation to achieve their dreams.

At 25 I founded a progressive high school in Brooklyn with a group of teachers. Our students had been child soldiers and in refugee camps and we graduated them at 2x the rate of other NYC high schools.

I went on to train teachers & design curriculum and programs for UCLA, the University of Hawaii, Vassar College, the National Academy of Education in Washington D.C., and for grassroots activist radical education groups in NYC.

I studied with Paolo Freire’s inner circle, coached top executives globally on issues ranging from writing to mindset to relationship, and develop oral storytelling curriculum in American Samoa.

Then, I designed and launched Signature Style, an online experience that women have called the “best learning experience” of their lives.
